Sunny and warm weather provided the ideal backdrop for the Kent and Medway Contaminated Forum to visit the former Milton Pipes factory now earmarked for residential redevelopment. The group was given a guided tour of the site and shown the remediation work undertaken to date. Of particular interest to the group was the on-going construction of an engineered biopile to treat hydrocarbon contaminated soils.

Several questions were asked by the group in relation to the type of contamination encountered at the site and the way this was dealt with as part of the remediation strategy. General feedback was that the event was an ideal opportunity for the local regulators to see and better understand the remediation processes generally associated with the remediation of brownfield sites.
