Senior Remediation Scientist – Sittingbourne, Kent

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual with a focus on contaminated land remediation to join our Remediation Service Line in our Sittingbourne office, Kent.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our Directors, Project Managers and Engineering Manager for the successful delivery of remediation projects with a practical knowledge of remediation processes.  Excellent communication skills are essential and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment inputting on projects across all Ecologia Service Lines (Environmental Claims, Consultancy and Remediation Works).

Duties will include:

  • Undertaking and / or coordinating investigations and remediation works including reporting.
  • Report review, interpretation and Remediation Strategy implementation.
  • Assist Director and Engineering Manager in final remediation design and deployment.
  • Preparation of permits/ licences/ consents (MTP, MMP, notifications).
  • Preparation site specific risk assessments and method statements, Health And Safety Plans.
  • Undertake remediation site inspections.
  • Organising internal and external resources with on site supervision of specific tasks and contractors.
  • Ensuring site works are compliant with health and safety, regulatory and project specific requirements.
  • Manage sampling and monitoring regimes, site data and scheduling.
  • Monitoring to ensure optimum performance of systems, compliance with environmental permits and other site specific requirements;
  • Preparing and reviewing validation / completion reports;
  • Prepare and review tender proposals and assist with bid process.
  • Liaising with clients, external contacts and regulatory bodies when required.
  • Assist with Research and Development of remediation / monitoring technologies.

Key Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience within the contaminated land / remediation sector.
  • Qualified to degree level in an environment/land related subject; however, candidates from a more practical background with experience of remediation works may also be considered.
  • Hands on experience of site work, sampling, site supervision, hold a valid CSCS card, completion of SSSTS or SMSTS training would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of UK contaminated land regime and remediation technologies and health and safety regulations.
  • Have practical knowledge of installation and operation of remediation processes.
  • Excellent communication skills.

The successful candidate will have good literacy and reporting skills, a flexible attitude to work, and possess the enthusiasm and drive to deliver the requirements of this role.

The ability to work as an effective member of a team and on your own initiative will be essential, along with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

The job will require a willingness to travel; a full UK/EC driving license is essential.

Desirable skills & experience

  • Industry specific training/ qualification e.g. CLAIRE QP/ WAMITAB/ CEnv etc.

Graduate Environmental Scientist – Sittingbourne, Kent

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual as a Graduate Environmental Scientist with a focus on contaminated land to join our Remediation Service Line in our Sittingbourne office, Kent.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to assist our Project Managers with the organisation of projects, procure materials and contractors, prepare reports and provide feedback from sites, whilst ensuring compliance with Company procedures.

Site duties will include:

  • Undertaking Phase I and Phase II site investigations,
  • Soil and Groundwater sampling & soil logging,
  • Supervise excavations,
  • Prepare & send samples to accredited laboratories,
  • Assistance in the preparation of Health and Safety documentation in relation to site work
  • Undertake remediation site inspections,
  • Liaise with contractors,
  • Operate scientific equipment.

Knowledge Skills & Experience Required

We will generally expect candidates to be qualified to degree level in an environment/land related subject; however, candidates from a more practical background with experience dealing with oil spills for insurance companies may also be considered. Candidates with CSCS card are encouraged to apply albeit the company will provide the necessary training.

Remediation Site Operative – Sittingbourne, Kent

We now have an opportunity for a Remediation Site Operative to join our busy team based in Sittingbourne.

The  Role 

The role will primarily support our work in Environmental Claims, dealing with land-based oil spills and other incidents.  The work involves an interesting mix of site-based work, with additional office and workshop based duties and a requires an adaptable approach to assist with urgent response situations.

Working within a small team, candidates will be required to assist in the response to pollution incidents, remediation of oil spills, investigation and remediation of contaminated land.

 Site duties will include

  • Assisting with emergency oil spill response including installation of absorption booms, pumps, extraction fans, Venturi aeration systems
  • Supervise excavations
  • Prepare & send samples to accredited laboratories
  • Undertake remediation site inspections
  • Liaise with contractors
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Procedures
  • Provide feedback to the Project Manager from site
  • Assisting with site investigations
  • Soil and Groundwater sampling
  • Operate scientific equipment

Office based duties

  • Assist with maintenance and cleaning of yard, vehicles, stores and equipment,

The  Role

Interns – Sittingbourne  – DUE TO  COVID  PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS AND REVISED  WORKING  PRACTICES  WE ARE  UNABLE  TO  OFFER  INTERSHIPS  AT  THE  PRESENT  TIME

We regularly seek to support undergraduate students working towards BSc, BEng or MSc qualifications, or equivalent, by offering Internships for a minimum of 6 months. The experience offered is assisting Ecologia’s staff in monitoring innovative in-situ remediation processes. These tasks will require site attendance collection of environmental samples, monitoring of the system performance, assisting the engineer to set up the test runs and, to a limited extent, interpretation of the process performance. Being supervised by an Environmental Engineer, the candidate will also be required to assist in carrying out site investigations and other in-house tasks. The tasks performed at Ecologia can be tailored to suit the student’s requirements of a research project normally associated with a final year dissertation.

A living allowance is offered with the internship, but applicants are expected to find additional funding to cover living expenses whilst in the UK.
