Human Health
The risk to human health is a crucial consideration in contaminated land assessment, particularly following the implementation of:
- Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act
- Planning Policy Statement 23 (PPS23) Planning and Pollution Control.
Ecologia undertakes Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments (DQRA) using the most up to date methods within the prescribed regulatory guidance. This ensures all our risk assessments are;
- Within the CLR11 framework for assessing contaminated land using the Source-Pathway-Receptor linkage.
- Comply with EA guidance on exposure modeling.
- Use recommended and appropriate statistical techniques.
- Are fully checked with sensitivity analysis.
- Quantitatively refine the Conceptual Site Model to fully quantify risks to site users and the public.
Ecologia has experience in human health risk assessment using the latest in deterministic and probabilistic exposure modeling. Ecologia has detailed knowledge of CLEA and RISC4 applications to ensure these models suit site specific situations. Combined with an understanding of toxicology, contaminant transport, hydrogeology and geology our detailed risk assessments are fully comprehensive and site specific.
Our risk assessors have worked with the Environmental Industries Commission and supported Land Quality Management Ltd in their respective derivations of Generic Assessment Criteria (GACs).
A detailed comprehensive and scientifically based appraisal will identify potential liabilities, leading to optimising or even alleviating the requirement or extent of potential remedial works.
Where further site investigative works are required to fully outline the extent of contamination, Ecologia provides a competitive and extensive range of site investigation techniques to ensure the risk assessments are as site specific as possible.
Specialist testing such as geotechnical works, bio-accessibility testing and dust monitoring can also be undertaken to further clarify risks to receptors where required.
