In-Situ Remediation

In-situ treatments are mainly employed where excavation of soils is undesirable and where relatively permeable soils are present. In-situ processes also allow for treatment of contamination at depths which would be prohibitive to excavation. The biological activity which is encouraged with these systems is able to remediate heavier hydrocarbons with low volatility which would be untouched by physicochemical in-situ techniques such as soil vapour extraction (SVE).

Typical cost-effective applications of in-situ remediation are where contamination is present on working sites or close to buildings, such as petrol station forecourts.

Ecologia employs a range of techniques for in-situ remediation. Treatment systems are custom designed according to soil type, contaminant type, and requirement for groundwater treatment. The remediation process may may include a combination of several in situ techniques.

Ecologia has been granted an Environmental Permit by the Environment Agency to carry out the in-situ treatment of contaminated soils and personnel with Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) NVQ Level 4 Certificates of Technical Competence.
