Ex-Situ Remediation

The ReMoVex Process

Ex-situ bioremediation requires excavation of the contaminated soils prior to treatment. The soils are placed in specially designed bio-piles, where nutrients, aeration and water can be applied and monitored, in order to increase soil microbial activity and encourage biodegradation of organic pollutants. The advantages of this approach are that soil volumes can be easily calculated and bioremediation materials easily applied, at a lower volume and time cost.

, Case study and the CLA:IRE report.

The ReMoVex process uses a vacuum-induced static aerated biopile system and is particularly effective for hydrocarbon contaminated soils. Importantly, this process provides the capability to monitor and control VOC emission and leachate generation, as well as leachate treatment. In addition, the space required for treating soil using static biopiles is often significantly less than an ex-situ bioremediation process based on windrows.

Ecologia has been granted an Environmental Permit by the Environment Agency to carry out the on-site treatment of contaminated soils using the ReMoVex process.
