Legal & Technical Support in Relation to a Pollution Claim
Ecologia were appointed by insurers representing a construction group to conduct a detailed review of a consultant’s reports and legal documentation.
The case was related to construction of a road as part of a major UK infrastructure initiative in the Midlands, involving an
alleged misuse of land resulting in ground contamination.
Technical Support in Relation to a Petrol Spillage at a Service Station
A major loss of petroleum occurred from a ruptured underground storage tank at a petrol station.
An environmental consultant was appointed by the garage owner to investigate the extent of environmental damage and to implement appropriate remedial measures. Extensive environmental survey work had been undertaken and further works were being proposed.
Decontamination of Nursery Affected by an Outbreak of E.Coli O157
Ecologia was appointed by insurers to manage decontamination of a children’s nursery in Scotland following a serious outbreak of E.coli O157 which was reported on the national news.
Ecologia was required to provide a suitable clean up strategy and to supervise the decontamination work, as well as liaise with the relevant Authorities.
Air Sparging – West London
Following a loss of a significant quantity of kerosene from an above ground storage tank inWest London, Ecologia were initially contracted to remove free phase oils form the surface of the groundwater. This work was undertaken by Ecologia within 4 months of instruction.
Domestic Property SVE Following a Kerosene Spill – East Anglia
Ecologia were instructed to provide a remediation options appraisal of contamination in the rear garden of a domestic property in East Anglia. The groundwater was determined to not be at risk due to the limited vertical migration of the contamination, leaving land and structures as the receptors. Excavation and disposal were rejected on the basis of costs
and Ecologia proposed the use of a Soil Vapour Extraction system. The project was organised using a fixed price contract and Ecologia were responsible for regulator liaison to achieve ‘sign off’ for the project and remove liability for the client.
RF Soil Heating – North London
Many current remediation technologies in the UK have limited efficiency, are time consuming and costly in removing Volatile Organic Contaminants (VOCs), Semi Volatile Organic Contaminants (SVOCs). Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE) is commonly used but can require significant timescales.
Technology Development Trials – Sittingbourne
Many current remediation technologies in the UK have limited efficiency and costly in removing Volatile Organic Contaminants (VOCs), Semi Volatile Organic Contaminants (SVOCs) and Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPLs) especially from tightly compacted soils and from hard to reach areas such as below permanent structures or in
fractured bedrock.
Acton- West London
Ecologia Environmental Solutions were recently given instruction to undertake the remediation of soil and groundwater at a former factory site in Acton. The site is being redeveloped for residential use and hydrocarbon contamination of the soil and groundwater was identified as being a risk.
