Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) Tests Begin
Ecologia has installed a test reactor at a National Grid site to allow the effectiveness of ZVI at treating contaminated groundwater to be assessed. The design concept is to take water from upgradient of the exiting in ground barrier and pass the groundwater though the reactor to treat cyanide. Ecologia is undertaking the work for Parsons Brinckerhoff.

James graduated from the University of Coleraine with a BSc in Environmental Science in 2008 and previously worked as Environmental Scientist for another Irish contractor specialised on domestic oil spills emergency response. James will increase Ecologia’s operational capability and on site response time.

Ecologia Cleans Up at Innovation Awards
Ecologia won the ‘most innovative’ category at the 2009 Brownfield Briefing Remediation Innovation Awards held in London on the 22nd September for its radiowave technology developed and piloted in Kent.
The award recognised the development of Ecologia’s remediation technique, which uses its patented In Situ Radio Frequency Heating (ISRFH) technology to speed up the removal of volatile organic chemicals from contaminated sites without the cost of removing the soil to landfill.
Dual Phase Extraction in Italy
Ecologia UK has been awarded the contract to undertake dual phase extraction works at a site in Italy owned by a multinational chemical company. Ecologia survived a tough selection process and will be installing the equipment and commencing remediation works in September this year.
Milk Clean-up
Ecologia has been contracted to undertake sparging works at a dairy site to remediate groundwater that has been heavily impacted by milk. The groundwater was rendered completely anoxic with a low pH resulting from biological activity. The sparging works will oxygenate the system and together with pH adjustment during the project remediate the groundwater at the site.
ISRFH Technology Presentation at the 10th Anniversary CL:AIRE Conference
The Managing Director of Ecologia, Dr Giacomo Maini, will present the results of the field trial carried out at a former service station contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons using In Situ Radio Frequency Heating (ISRFH) technology.
